Join historian Rory Naismith for a fascinating evening as he discusses Offa, his major new biography of the powerful King of Mercia — published that very week. We’re especially delighted to welcome Rory to Radcliffe on Trent, the son of two of our very own locals.
Ruling from 757 to 796, Offa transformed Mercia into the dominant force in southern Britain and left behind one of the country’s most famous landmarks, Offa’s Dyke. In this engaging talk, Rory explores the politics, ambition and intrigue of the eighth century, revealing the man behind the myth and the king whose influence helped shape the future of England.
Tickets are available as talk-only or talk + a copy of Offa so you can take home this brand new biography hot off the press.
